Quenda Begins Preparations for Chelsea Move Despite Foot Injury
Young Portuguese winger Giovanni Quenda is continuing his preparations to officially join Chelsea, despite suffering a metatarsal injury. He is expected to remain in London until the international break this month to follow his rehabilitation program.
The 18-year-old is taking full advantage of Chelsea’s state-of-the-art medical facilities to ensure he returns to full fitness ahead of the next stage of his career with the Premier League club.
Quenda agreed last year to join Chelsea in a deal reportedly worth £40 million from Sporting Lisbon, with the plan to complete one more season with his Portuguese club before making the official move. He is currently focused on finishing the season strongly with his team, which is competing against Porto for the Primeira Liga title.
The young winger hopes that strong performances in the final months of the season will boost his chances of being included in the Portugal national team squad for the 2026 World Cup, amid fierce competition for attacking spots.
During his time in London, Quenda is also adapting to life in England by improving his English and completing administrative tasks such as paperwork and finding a new home. He has also had the chance to meet his Chelsea teammates and coaching staff, while planning two scenarios for his first season at Stamford Bridge: one in case he is selected for the World Cup and another if he is not called up.
